Himachal BJP alleges misuse of state resources for Congress rally in Delhi

Shimla, Nov 2 (UNI) BJP MLA and state media in-charge Randhir Sharma on Monday accused the Congress government in Himachal Pradesh of misusing government resources for the party's November 1 rally in Delhi, alleging that a government helicopter, around 200 HRTC buses and state-run guest houses were used for political activities.
Sharma alleged that Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu had repeatedly travelled to Delhi in the government helicopter to attend Congress protests and rallies, imposing an additional financial burden of crores of rupees on the state exchequer.
Questioning the use of public money for party programmes, he said the government must explain why the people of Himachal Pradesh should bear the expenses of Congress's political activities. Sharma further alleged that around 200 Himachal Road Transport Corporation (HRTC) buses were sent to Delhi for the November 1 rally, leaving several routes affected for nearly three days.
He claimed that commuters, students, employees and residents of rural areas faced considerable inconvenience due to the disruption.
He also alleged that the Congress had not paid any fare to HRTC for using the buses, adding that the political mobilisation had placed an additional burden on an already loss-making transport corporation. The BJP leader sought details from the government about the number of buses deployed, routes affected, total fare payable and the amount actually received by HRTC.
He also accused the Congress government of turning Himachal Bhawan and Himachal Sadan in Delhi into centres of party activities. Alleging that rooms were being booked for Congress leaders and workers and meetings related to political protests were being held on the premises, Sharma demanded that the government make public the details of bookings, expenditure and payments.
He said government guest houses were public assets and should not be used as private facilities by any political party.
On the issues of Special Intensive Revision (SIR), Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) and alleged vote otheft, Sharma accused the Congress and other opposition parties of misleading the public. He said complaints relating to the electoral process should be submitted to constitutional institutions with supporting evidence.
He said the BJP would take its campaign, 'Loktantra Bachao, Arajakta Hatao', to the people through foot marches, press conferences, intellectual discussions and youth interactions. Demanding an impartial inquiry into the alleged misuse of the government helicopter, HRTC buses and state guest houses, Sharma said the Sukhu government must provide an account of every rupee spent from the public exchequer.
