Himachal CM announces housing aid for sanitation workers belonging to the Valmiki community

Shimla, Oct 26 (UNI) Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on Monday announced financial assistance of Rs 25 lakh for Bhagwan Valmiki Temple in Krishna Nagar here and highlighted the state government's housing assistance scheme for eligible sanitation workers belonging to the Valmiki community.
The Chief Minister made the announcements while paying obeisance at the temple on the occasion of Maharishi Valmiki Jayanti. He extended greetings to the people of the state and inaugurated a medical camp in Krishna Nagar.
Describing Maharishi Valmiki as a symbol of India's cultural, literary and spiritual heritage, Sukhu said the composition of the Ramayana conveyed the timeless messages of truth, justice, compassion, sacrifice and duty, which continued to guide society.
He said development was meaningful only when every section of society received equal opportunities and no one was left behind because of social or economic difficulties.
The Congress party believed in the Constitution and its values, while the state government was committed to ensuring social justice, equality and dignity for every individual.
Sukhu said the government aimed to ensure that every family could lead a dignified life, access better education and become self-reliant. In line with this objective, the state government had launched the Maharishi Valmiki Kamgaar Awas Yojana to provide financial assistance of Rs 3 lakh to eligible sanitation workers belonging to the Valmiki community for constructing pucca houses.
Under the scheme, families must have an annual income of less than Rs 2.5 lakh and should not own a pucca house to qualify for the assistance.
The Chief Minister said the government was committed to providing respect and equal opportunities to all communities. Noting that many families had been residing in Krishna Nagar for a long time, he said the government would conduct a survey of the families and houses in the area and consider preparing a welfare plan for their benefit.
He described members of the Valmiki community as part of his extended family and said the government was continuously working for their welfare and upliftment.
The announcements came as the Chief Minister reiterated the government's commitment to inclusive development, social justice and improved living conditions for disadvantaged sections of society.
