Himachal CM stresses expansion of advanced healthcare facilities

Shimla, October 6 (UNI) Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on Monday said the state government was making concerted efforts to expand advanced healthcare facilities and ensure that modern treatment was accessible to people across the state, including those living in remote and far-flung areas.
Addressing the first convocation ceremony of AIIMS Bilaspur, Sukhu congratulated the graduating students on receiving their degrees and wished them a bright and successful future.
Welcoming President Droupadi Murmu to Himachal Pradesh, the Chief Minister said the state was known not only as Dev Bhoomi but also as Veer Bhoomi, with its temples, folk traditions and centuries-old cultural heritage giving it a distinct identity.
Referring to Bilaspur’s history, he said the people of the district had endured displacement as part of the price paid for nation-building and development.
The Bhakra Dam, built in accordance with the development vision of the country’s first Prime Minister Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, was not only a symbol of development and economic prosperity but also reflected the sacrifice and contribution of the people of Bilaspur, he said.
Sukhu said education and health had remained among the top priorities of his government during the last three-and-a-half years.
The government’s objective was to provide quality and advanced healthcare services within the state so that people did not have to travel outside Himachal for specialised treatment.
He said advanced diagnostic facilities, including 3-Tesla MRI, PET scan, high-end X-ray and ultrasound machines, were being made available in the state on the lines of AIIMS Delhi.
“World-class healthcare services should not remain confined to cities,” he said, adding that efforts were underway to continuously expand modern medical facilities to remote and inaccessible areas.
The Chief Minister said robotic surgery had also been introduced in medical colleges in the state. Advanced procedures that were earlier largely available only at expensive private hospitals were now being provided through government healthcare institutions, benefiting common people and economically weaker sections.
He said Himachal Pradesh earlier had only 277 postgraduate medical seats and the state government was working to add another 320 seats.
He sought the support of union Health Minister Jagat Prakash Nadda in increasing the number of PG seats in the state.
Sukhu said the state had also started North India’s first college offering paramedical and allied healthcare courses, aimed at creating a pool of trained technical manpower for the sector.
He added that efforts were also underway to establish an Ayurvedic hospital on the lines of AIIMS.
The Chief Minister said strengthening the healthcare system and ensuring access to modern treatment for people across Himachal Pradesh would continue to remain a key priority of the state government.

UIDAI simplifies Aadhaar date-of-birth correction paperwork, eases requirement for details of old documents

Panchkula, Oct 6 (UNI) The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has simplified paperwork for correction of date of birth in Aadhaar, removing certain requirements for applicants to furnish details of documents submitted during earlier enrolment or update exercises, while retaining stringent safeguards against repeated changes and fraudulent claims.
The changes have been introduced through a corrigendum to the annexures of UIDAI's Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for Date of Birth update in Aadhaar, originally issued on Dec. 24, 2025.
