Himachal launches 75th Wildlife Week with focus on public participation

Shimla, October 2 (UNI) The 75th Wildlife Week 2026 was formally inaugurated at the Water Catchment area in Dhalli here on Friday, with Rural Development and Panchayati Raj Minister Anirudh Singh calling for active public participation in conservation of wildlife and their habitats.
Addressing the inaugural function, the Minister appreciated the initiatives being undertaken by the Wildlife Wing of the Himachal Pradesh Forest Department in the fields of wildlife conservation, awareness and community participation.
He urged people across the state to ensure their participation in protecting wildlife and their habitats and called for collective efforts at the local level to strengthen conservation measures.
The Minister also congratulated officers and employees of the Wildlife Wing for their efforts and for successfully organising the inaugural ceremony of Wildlife Week.
He honoured members of the team with appreciation certificates and mementoes in recognition of their dedicated contribution to wildlife conservation.
Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (Wildlife) and Chief Wildlife Warden Alok Prem Nagar, welcomed the chief guest and other dignitaries.
He briefed the gathering about various programmes planned during the week and appealed to people to actively participate in the conservation of forests and wildlife.
The Minister subsequently flagged off a cleanliness campaign as part of the Wildlife Week celebrations, conveying the message of environmental protection and cleanliness.
Senior officials and employees of the Forest Department attended the inaugural programme, including Additional Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (Wildlife) K Thirumal, Conservator of Forests (Wildlife Circle) Shimla Preeti Bhandari, Deputy Conservator of Forests, Wildlife Division Shimla Dr Shahnawaz Bhat, Deputy Conservator of Forests Shimla Rural Aniket Maruti Vanwe, Assistant Conservator of Forests Devendra Singh Chauhan and Range Forest Officer Rupendra Sharma.
The department said the inauguration marked the beginning of a week-long series of activities aimed at strengthening wildlife conservation, protection of wildlife habitats, public awareness and community participation across Himachal Pradesh.
The programmes will seek to create greater awareness among people about the importance of wildlife and ecological habitats and encourage communities to play a more active role in their protection.
