Himachal's Spiti village gets Rs 2 crore girls’ hostel, health sub-centre upgrade

Shimla, Oct 15 (UNI) Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on Thursday announced Rs 2 crore for constructing a new girls’ hostel at Government Senior Secondary School in Rangrik and upgrading the village health sub-centre to a Primary Health Centre (PHC).
The announcements were made during his visit to Rangrik in Spiti Valley under the state government’s ‘Sarkar Gaon Ke Dwar’ programme, through which he stayed overnight in the remote village and interacted with residents to understand their problems.
The Chief Minister listened to public grievances at Manjushri and directed the concerned officers to take appropriate steps for their redressal.
Sukhu said his visits and overnight stays in remote areas were aimed at gaining first-hand knowledge of the difficulties faced by local people and understanding their requirements. He said the government was incorporating schemes into the state budget to address their concerns.
He described ‘Sarkar Gaon Ke Dwar’ as a flagship programme of the state government, with resolving public grievances among its top priorities.
He said the government was committed to ensuring that the benefits of development reached the last person in society.
The Chief Minister said he had earlier visited several remote areas, interacted directly with residents and taken steps to address issues raised by them.
During his stay at Rangrik, Sukhu stayed at the residence of Sonam Phunsuk.
Local residents accorded him a traditional welcome and served local delicacies.
He also conducted a surprise inspection of the girls’ hostel at the government senior secondary school and interacted with the students living there.
Responding to their demand for better accommodation, he announced Rs 2 crore for the construction of a new hostel. He also assured the students that their other concerns would be addressed, including construction of a boundary wall, deployment of two multi-task workers and a female warden, and resolving the water shortage at the hostel.
Earlier, the Chief Minister visited the old-age home at Key, where he interacted with elderly residents and enquired about the facilities being provided to them.
