Himachal: TapoVan all decked up ahead of Commonwealth Parliamentary Conference

Dharamshala, June 29 (UNI) TapoVan Vidhan Sabha complex in Dharamshala has been decked up like a bride ahead of the prestigious Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) India Region Zone-II Annual Conference, scheduled for June 30 and July 1.
Speakers from Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Karnataka, and Telangana have already arrived in Dharamshala via air travel to attend the conference. Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman Harivansh has also reached the hill town. Lok Sabha Speaker and CPA India Region Chairman Om Birla is expected to land at Gaggal Airport at 8 a.m. on June 30, ahead of inaugurating the event at 10 a.m.
Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu will address the gathering during the inaugural ceremony.
The CPA India Region Zone-II comprises three states — Himachal Pradesh, Punjab and Haryana and two Union Territories Delhi and Jammu & Kashmir. Himachal Pradesh Assembly Speaker Kuldeep Singh Pathania is the convener for the zone.
Speaker Pathania informed that a total of 178 delegates, including Speakers, Deputy Speakers, Leaders of Opposition, Chief Whips, Deputy Whips, and other members from the states and UTs will participate in the event.
The central theme of the conference is "Good Governance in the Digital Age: Resource Management, Safeguarding Democracy, and Embracing Innovation."
The event will include three sessions.
On June 30, the first session will deliberate on “The Role of the Legislature in Managing State Resources Compared to State Development.” Representatives from various states will present their viewpoints.
On July 1, two sessions will be held and the topics are “Disqualification on Grounds of Defection under Article 102(2) and 191(2) and the Tenth Schedule”. and “Use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in State Legislatures.”
The conference will conclude with a valedictory session presided over by Himachal Pradesh Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla, who will also deliver the closing address.
Assembly Speaker Pathania, Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman Harivansh, and Deputy Chief Minister Mukesh Agnihotri will also address the gathering.
Deputy Speaker Vinay Kumar will deliver the vote of thanks. Secretaries of the Lok Sabha, Rajya Sabha, and all participating state assemblies will also be present. UNI AR SSP
