Himachal to introduce moral education from next academic session: CM

Shimla, Oct 14 (UNI) Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on Wednesday announced that moral education would be introduced in government schools from the next academic session, with the syllabus currently under preparation.
Interacting with students of the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) school at Kaza in the tribal Spiti Valley, the Chief Minister encouraged them to work hard, set goals and strive for success.
He responded to their queries and listened to concerns regarding school infrastructure, hostel facilities and academic support.
The students thanked Sukhu for affiliating their school with the CBSE, saying the move had opened up better educational opportunities for children in the remote region.
During the interaction, a student informed him that 85 students were enrolled in the school, including 46 girls residing in the hostel.
The student highlighted the shortage of a cook, cleaning staff and a female warden.
Responding to the concerns, Sukhu said separate hostels for boys and girls would be constructed, along with a residential block for teachers.
He assured the students that adequate funds would be provided to improve the school infrastructure and facilities.
Students also raised the issue of cold classrooms and inadequate lighting, which affected their studies.
The Chief Minister assured them that necessary improvements would be undertaken, with the aim of completing the upgradation work before the next academic session.
A student suggested including environmental studies in the curriculum.
Appreciating the suggestion, Sukhu emphasised the importance of environmental protection, saying the survival of human beings was closely linked to the survival of the environment.
During the interaction, the Chief Minister also discussed tourism development and employment opportunities in Spiti.
Responding to a student's question about his second visit to the valley, he described the region as beautiful and blessed with natural splendour.
He said the state government was developing tourism-related projects that would help increase local incomes and generate employment opportunities.
The number of tourists visiting the region had increased following the government's decision to organise Himachal Day celebrations in Spiti, he added.
Sukhu also informed the students that an ice hockey stadium was being constructed in the area, which could create opportunities for hosting international-level events in the future.
Another student sought special coaching facilities for children from Spiti to help them prepare for competitive examinations without having to travel outside the valley.
The Chief Minister said the government would take positive steps in this direction.
Skill training courses would also be introduced in the region, while specialised tourism-related training programmes would be considered to equip local youth with skills for employment and self-employment.
The interaction focused on improving educational infrastructure and expanding opportunities for students in the remote tribal region.
The proposed introduction of moral education is aimed at adding a value-based component to school learning from the coming academic session.
MLA Anuradha Rana was also present on the occasion.
