Shillong, June 21 (UNI) Sonam Raghuvanshi and Raj Singh Kushwaha, the prime accused in the murder Indore-based businessman Raja Raghuvanshi, were remanded to 13 days judicial custody by a lower court here in Meghalaya on Saturday.
"The court has remanded both the accused for 13-day judicial custody. The police did not ask for custody. The Investigating Officer prayed for judicial custody and the court granted 13-day judicial custody,” Assistant Public Prosecutor Tushar Chanda told reporters.
Sonam, the widow of Raja Raghuvanshi, and her alleged lover Raj were produced before the Court of Judicial Magistrate First Class, East Khasi Hills district, Don Kitbor Koshy Mihsil.
Sonam and Raj’s police custody were extended to two more days on June 19 while the other three accused - Akash Rajput, Vishal Singh Chauhan and Anand Kurmi- were sent to 14 days judicial custody.
The Special Investigation Team of Meghalaya Police arrested all the five accused from different locations in Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh based on substantial evidence of their alleged involvement in the cold blooded murder of Raja at Wei Sawdong parking lot in Sohra, Meghalaya on May 23.
Raja body was found on June 2. Sonam was arrested by the SIT on June 9, a day after she surrendered at the Nanganj Police Station in Ghazipur district.
Police alleged that the murder of Raja was allegedly plotted by Sonam and Raj, just few days after their wedding on May 11 in Indore.
The crime scene was recreated on Tuesday. Police have seized the second murder weapon that was used for the murder.
