India's biggest medal day yet: Athletics leads eight-medal haul

Aichi-Nagoya, Sept 28 (UNI) India produced its most prolific medal haul of the Asian Games on Monday, collecting eight medals — four silver and four bronze — as athletics led the charge with a javelin double, a 42-year-old national record and four more podium finishes.
Yash Vir Singh and Rohit Yadav opened the athletics medal rush with silver and bronze respectively in the men's javelin. Yash Vir produced a personal best 85.72m with his final throw, while Rohit sent the spear 84.35m. Sri Lanka's Rumesh Pathirage won gold with 88.55m.
Vithya Ramraj delivered one of the day's standout performances, winning bronze in the women's 400m hurdles in 54.75 seconds and breaking P.T. Usha's 42-year-old national record of 55.42s. It was Vithya's second medal of the Games after her mixed 4x400m relay silver and fifth Asian Games medal overall.
