Iranian Parliament Speaker says Trump preparing for ‘next phase of war’ despite Vance’s call to end conflict

Tehran, Nov 5 (UNI) Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf on Thursday accused US President Donald Trump of preparing for the next phase of the war against Iran, despite Vice President JD Vance's call for an end to the conflict following the Republican Party's losses in the midterm elections.
In a pointed post on X, Ghalibaf took aim at Vance's remarks acknowledging that the war with Iran has contributed to the Republicans' electoral setback, questioning why the vice president is not conveying his assessment directly to Trump.
“Losing gambler energy, can't walk away from the table. Boss is prepping the next war phase while America teeters on an Israel-First cliff. Skip the TED talk. Why not say this to your boss?” Ghalibaf wrote.
His remarks came after Vance acknowledged that the war against Iran and Washington's relationship with Israel had alienated some voters who had supported Trump in the 2024 presidential election.
In a lengthy assessment of the Republican Party's electoral losses, Vance identified four major concerns among voters who shifted their support to Democrats: ending the war with Iran, addressing the cost-of-living crisis and inflation, restoring the "America First" policy and reassessing the US relationship with Israel.
“Our voters showed up. And the above four reasons are why many of them voted for Democrats,” Vance wrote.
He was particularly direct about the political fallout of the conflict, saying, “The reason we lost is the war. The president himself said so last night.”
Asked about Vance's assessment, Trump acknowledged that the conflict has affected fuel prices but indicated that he has no regrets about launching the military campaign.
“That's largely true because (the war with Iran) raised gasoline prices a little bit. Also, if I had to do it again, I would do it again,” Trump said.
Vance's remarks shows an acknowledgment of the domestic political consequences of the administration's military action against Iran and its close alignment with Israel.
Democrats won control of both the House of Representatives and the Senate in Tuesday's midterm elections, ending Republican control of Congress for the remaining two years of Trump's presidency. UNI AAB
