J&K ACB arrests Naib Court in bribery case

Jammu, June 4 (UNI) Jammu and Kashmir Anti-Corruption Bureau have trapped and arrested a Naib Court for demanding and accepting a bribe from the complainant in Kathua district of Jammu and Kashmir.
The ACB spokesman said that a complaint was received wherein it was alleged that a public servant namely Selection Grade Constable Sudesh Kumar, posted as Naib Court in the court of Ld. Munsiff, Mahanpur demanded illegal gratification for not filing an appeal against the order of acquittal in the case pending adjudication before the Ld. Munsiff Court, Mahanpur.
A Naib Court is a police personnel or in some contexts, a court employee, who acts as a liaison between the court and the local police station, jail authorities, and other related entities.
The accused had demanded a bribe of Rs 10,000 from the complainant for preventing to file an appeal against the order of acquittal.
After negotiation, he said that the accused has agreed to take a bribe amount of Rs 8,000 from the complainant.
Since, the complainant did not want to pay a bribe and he approached the Anti-Corruption Bureau for taking legal action against the accused public servant under law, said the spokesman.
He added that on receipt of the complaint, a discreet verification was conducted, which confirmed the demand for a bribe by the public servant concerned and accordingly, a case was registered in Police Station ACB Jammu and investigation taken up.
During the course of investigation, a trap team headed by a Gazetted rank officer was constituted and the team laid a successful trap and the accused public servant was caught red-handed while demanding and accepting a bribe amount of Rs 8,000 from the complainant in the presence of independent witnesses.
The accused was arrested on the spot by the ACB team after following due process of law, adding he said, “the bribe money was also recovered from his possession in presence of independent witnesses associated with the trap team.”
Moreover, search is being conducted in the residential house of the accused situated in presence of independent witness and Magistrate and further investigation of the instant case is going on, said the spokesman. UNI VBH SSP
