J&K government hikes stipend for MBBS, BDS interns to Rs 25,000

Srinagar, Oct 21 (UNI) The Jammu and Kashmir government on Wednesday ordered an increase in the monthly stipend for MBBS and BDS interns, including Foreign Medical Graduates (FMGs), from Rs 12,300 to Rs 25,000, with effect from October 1
According to a government order issued by the Health and Medical Education Department, the enhancement has been approved following concurrence from the Finance Department.
The decision comes amid renewed agitation by medical interns across Jammu and Kashmir, who resumed their protest on Tuesday, accusing the government of failing to honour its written assurance to enhance their stipend within 30 days.
The interns had launched an agitation last month, demanding an increase in their monthly stipend from Rs 12,300 to Rs 30,000.
They called off their strike on September 9 after the government assured them that their demand would be addressed within a month. However, the interns on Tuesday said the deadline had passed without a decision, prompting them to resume their agitation.
