J&K Police book OGW among two under PSA in Kishtwar

Jammu, May 29 (UNI) In a major crackdown on anti-social and anti-national elements, Kishtwar Police has booked two individuals, including an Over Ground Worker (OGW), under the Public Safety Act (PSA) for their repeated involvement in activities prejudicial to public peace and national security.

Senior Superintendent of Police Kishtwar, Naresh Singh, stated that one of the accused, identified as Rustam Ali Bagwan of Hunjala, Kishtwar, has been identified as an active Over Ground Worker (OGW).

He was found providing logistic support and maintaining close links with terrorist elements operating in the region.

His involvement posed a serious threat to the security and sovereignty of the Union Territory, he said, adding that, acting on credible inputs, a detailed dossier was prepared and, upon approval from the competent authority, he was booked under PSA and lodged in Central Jail Kotbhalwal, Jammu.

The second accused identified as Arshad Hussain of Guriyan, Kishtwar, he said, is a habitual burglar with a long history of criminal activities.

"Despite being involved in multiple theft cases and having received several warnings, he continued his unlawful behavior, creating fear and insecurity among the general public," said the district police chief.

On the orders of the District Magistrate Kishtwar, he was detained under PSA and lodged in District Jail Kathua, the SSP said.

He said that the detention orders in both cases were issued by the District Magistrate Kishtwar, following comprehensive dossiers submitted by the police.

SSP Singh reaffirmed the commitment of the police to maintaining peace and stability in the region.

He emphasized that stringent action will continue against individuals indulging in criminal and anti-national activities, and no one will be allowed to disturb the law and order of the district.
