J&K receives approval for six free LPG cylinders annually for AAY families

Srinagar, Sep 24 (UNI) The Jammu and Kashmir Government on Thursday said they have received an approval from the competent authority for providing six free LPG cylinders to families covered under the Antyodaya Anna Yojana (AAY).
Minister for Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Satish Sharma informed the Legislative Assembly after the approval from the competent authority necessary orders will be issued shortly.
The announcement triggered an uproar in the House, with BJP members raising slogans against the government
Leader of Opposition and BJP leader Sunil Sharma criticised the government over the announcement, alleging that the National Conference-led government had misled people by failing to fulfil its election promise of providing 12 free LPG cylinders annually.
“People will never forgive you. You had promised 12 cylinders at the time of elections and two years later you are cheating poor people of J&K,” Sharma said.
Sharma said the government had promised 12 cylinders at the time of elections and alleged that two years had passed without fulfilment of the commitment.
“They had promised 12 cylinders at the time of elections and two years later they are cheating poor people of J&K. Who will give 24 cylinders of the last two years?” he said.
His remarks triggered protests from the treasury benches, while BJP members continued raising slogans, leading to heated exchanges between members of the ruling and Opposition sides.
Speaker Abdul Rahim Rather intervened and restored order as the uproar continued in the House for some time.
