Just like BJP blames Nehru, NC now blames us: Iltija Mufti

Srinagar, June 4 (UNI) Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leader Iltija Mufti on Wednesday accused the National Conference of scapegoating her party for the ongoing political and governance-related issues in Jammu and Kashmir.

Drawing a pointed analogy, she compared NC's stance to that of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which she said routinely blames India's first Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru, for the country’s present-day problems.

“Why do you rewind 11 years? why do you time travel?” Iltija asked, responding to a reporter's question in Anantnag district about PDP's 2014 alliance with the BJP.
“Just like the BJP blames Nehru ji for everything, now NC has made it a habit to blame PDP,” she added.

The PDP-BJP coalition, formed after the 2014 assembly elections, collapsed in 2018, but its legacy continues to draw criticism. NC leaders have frequently argued that the BJP alliance facilitated the BJP’s deeper inroads into Jammu and Kashmir , ultimately culminating in the abrogation of Article 370 in 2019.

Iltija, daughter of PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti, questioned why the NC, despite having significant political strength, is now allegedly engaging with the BJP.

“It’s been 11 years since that government was formed and left. Why question us today when the NC, despite having 50 MLAs, is knocking on BJP’s door?” she said.

Accusing the NC of dodging responsibility, Iltija said: “People gave them a massive mandate. They have to be made accountable. And PDP cannot be the excuse for everything,” she said.

Iltija also welcomed the rail link to Kashmir that would be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on June 6.

She, however, urged authorities to be more mindful of Kashmir’s ecological sensitivity and passenger convenience.

Earlier, Ilija commenced the state-level party membership drive from Bijbehara in Anantnag. UNI MJR SSP
