Kangra district administration on alert ahead of monsoon: DC Hemraj Bairwa

Dharamshala, June 10 (UNI) Kangra Deputy Commissioner Hemraj Bairwa said the district administration is fully alert to deal with potential disasters ahead of the monsoon season.
He emphasised that timely weather forecasts will be regularly disseminated to the public to ensure that residents remain aware and prepared in advance.
The officials were directed to clean drains and water channels (kuhls) across all panchayats to prevent waterlogging during heavy rains.
Instructions have also been issued to prepare a list of landslide-prone roads and areas in advance so that preventive measures can be implemented effectively.
The DC stressed the importance of pre-positioning essential machinery and tools, including JCBs, by departments like Public Works, IPH, and Electricity to respond swiftly during emergencies.
He also instructed the Food and Civil Supplies Department to ensure the advance stocking of essential food items and medicines in remote and inaccessible areas.
To avoid delays in relief efforts, Bairwa said that disaster management control rooms will be set up at the district and sub-divisional levels. All departments have been told to appoint nodal officers for disaster-related tasks during the monsoon.
Furthermore, he directed the Sub-Divisional Magistrates to hold preparedness meetings with panchayat representatives and volunteers to streamline coordination during any disaster situation.
