Kangra Valley Carnival to be held in Dharamsala from Dec 24 to 31

Dharamsala, Sep 30 (UNI) Kangra Valley Carnival will be organised in Dharamsala from December 24 to 31, Kangra Deputy Commissioner Hemraj Bairwa said. To mark the inauguration of the event, a concert has been proposed at the Dharamsala Cricket Stadium.
Chairing a meeting on Tuesday here to review preparations for the carnival, Bairwa directed all departments concerned to begin preparations well in advance to ensure the smooth conduct of the week-long event.
He said several important programmes involving visits of dignitaries from the state and across the country have also been proposed in Dharamsala ahead of the carnival. He directed officials to constitute department-wise committees with clearly defined responsibilities and ensure close coordination and regular review of preparations.
The meeting discussed arrangements for cleanliness at the venues, traffic and parking management, security, drinking water and power supply, medical facilities, stage arrangements and cultural programmes.
The Deputy Commissioner directed officials to prepare time-bound action plans for all arrangements and complete the preparations within the stipulated schedule.
He said a number of activities would be organised during the carnival, including publication of a souvenir, marathon, cycling event, anti-chitta street plays, and sports activities. Local artists and self-help groups would also participate in various programmes.
Bairwa said that, as per the directions of Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, a concert has been proposed at the Dharamsala Cricket Stadium to mark the inauguration of the Kangra Valley Carnival. Entry to the concert would be through tickets, which would also help mobilise resources required for organising the carnival, he said.
Municipal Corporation Commissioner Zafar Iqbal, Superintendent of Police Kulbhushan Verma, Assistant Commissioner to Deputy Commissioner Vivek Chauhan, Dharamsala SDM Mohit Ratna and officials of various departments attended the meeting.
