Kerala CM seeks PM's intervention to restore Sec-13 of Disaster Management Act-2005

Thiruvananthapuram, Jun 12 (UNI) Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Thursday sought Prime Minister Narendra Modi's intervention to restore Section-13 of the Disaster Management Act-2005.
In a letter to the Prime Minister, the Chief Minister said "the Union Government has omitted Section 13 of the National Disaster Management Act, 2005. The provision reads as follows : "Relief in loan repayment, etc.- The National Authority may, in cases of disasters of severe magnitude, recommend relief in repayment of loans or for grant of fresh loans to the persons affected by disaster on such concessional terms as may be appropriate."
The above section enables providing much needed financial relief to the victims of disaster, who face unexpected crisis and will have to rebuild their lives after incurring heavy losses, he said
The said provision in the Disaster Management Act, is included with a humanitarian intent and deleting the same amounts to putting the victims of natural disasters to added hardship.
