Kolkata airport set for more flights, larger aircraft in winter schedule

Kolkata, Sep 16 (UNI) Air connectivity from Kolkata is set to receive a boost during the forthcoming winter travel season, with airlines planning to increase flight capacity and introduce larger aircraft on key routes, NSCBI Airport Director Vikram Singh said on Wednesday.
Speaking at a press conference, Singh said Emirates Airlines would increase its capacity from Kolkata, while Akasa Air would also expand its operations, including flights to Navi Mumbai.
“Emirates Airlines’ capacity will be increased and Akasa Airlines will also operate more flights,” Singh said, adding that larger aircraft would be introduced as part of the expansion plan.
The development comes ahead of the 2026 winter travel season, when airlines are expected to enhance their networks and deploy larger aircraft on several important routes. Emirates, which currently operates direct flights between Kolkata and Dubai International Airport, is also preparing to increase capacity on the Kolkata sector.
At present, Emirates operates 11 flights a week between Kolkata and Dubai. While the airline does not currently operate direct international services from Kolkata to destinations other than Dubai, passengers can connect through Dubai to more than 125 destinations across Europe, the Americas, Africa, the Middle East and other parts of the world.
The planned increase in capacity is expected to provide passengers from eastern India with greater connectivity during the peak winter travel period.
Akasa Air is also set to expand its network from the region, with Navi Mumbai among the destinations to be served. The airline’s expansion is expected to provide an additional direct connectivity option for passengers travelling between Kolkata and the financial hub’s additional airport.
Meanwhile, Singh announced the launch of the “Yatri Sewa Abhiyan 2026” at NSCBI Airport, a 24-day passenger-centric campaign aimed at improving service quality, accessibility and the overall passenger experience.
The campaign will be conducted at the airport from September 17 to October 10 this year
According to Singh, the initiative will focus on several aspects of airport operations and passenger services, including cleanliness, accessibility, passenger information, safety, amenities, digital services, grievance redressal, sustainability and service excellence.
The campaign is intended to strengthen passenger-oriented services through a series of focused initiatives across different areas of airport operations. UNI RC NST CDS
