Bengaluru, June 3 (UNI) Former India captain and legendary leg-spinner Anil Kumble on Tuesday struck a tone of cautious optimism ahead of the much-anticipated IPL finals between Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Punjab, saying the better-performing side on the day would take the honours.
Kumble, who has had professional stints with both franchises, welcomed the prospect of a new winner but avoided picking sides. "Yeah, yeah, I've been involved in both the teams, RCB and Punjab. It's good that there'll be a new winner. Yeah, hopefully, I'm rooting for - hopefully both the teams will play. It'll be a really good game," he told reporters here.
When asked whether RCB would choose to bat or bowl first, the veteran sidestepped the question with measured words, saying, "I can't say all that. It depends — whoever plays better will certainly win the game."
While this may come across as underwhelming to emotionally charged RCB fans, it does not dampen their enthusiasm. Instead, it serves as a reminder that amid the celebrations, the real test lies on the field.
With RCB inching closer to a long-awaited title, fans across Karnataka are gripped by high-octane excitement. From Mangaluru to Ballari, and from Hubballi to Mysuru, passionate supporters have taken to the streets with celebratory marches, city-wide screenings, and digital campaigns in red and black.
The fervour captures years of longing and near-misses, as the Bengaluru franchise, despite a few playoff appearances in past seasons, continues its relentless pursuit of a maiden IPL trophy. With match-hours fast approaching, the focus sharpens equally on performance and regional pride.
