Litchi transportation from Bihar rises by 108 pc

Patna, June 22 (UNI) Bihar’s famous and luscious juicy pulp fruit of “Litchi” has created a new record this year as the state has, so far, transported 250 tonnes of Litchi to other states registering 108 per cent increase in its transportation.
Official sources said here on Sunday that Airport Authority of India (AAI) has played a significant role in transporting Litchis to the metro cities from Darbhanga airport.
With Litchi reaching bigger cities, the cargo air service has provided the state’s farmers the access to large markets. Litchi exports to other states have witnessed a rise of 108 per cent in comparison to 2024 when the state had transported 120 tonnes of the juicy fruit.
The sources said that the state’s Litchi, especially the Shahi variety which is known for its sweetness and juicy pulp and grown in north Bihar district of Muzaffarpur and its adjoining areas have been sent to metro cities of Mumbai, Delhi, Hyderabad and Bengaluru this year, creating a record.
According to the source the Indigo airline transported a total of 159.2 tonnes of Litchis while SpiceJet transported 47 tonnes and Akasa 44.5 tonnes of Litchis to other states.
The sources informed that after Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) clearance on May 20, the SpiceJet airline sent its first consignment to Mumbai on May 21. Indigo and Akasa airlines too sent Litchis to other states from May 23 and June 1, 2025 respectively.
Despite the challenges of the weather, easte regional headquarters (RHQ-ER), airport, AAI Cargo and Logistics and Allied Services Company Ltd (AAICLAS) and teams of various airlines successfully transported the consignment with better and efficient coordination among them, added the source.
