Maha police invoke MCOCA in Beed energy plant robbery case

Mumbai , May 31 (UNI) The Maharashtra Police have invoked the stringent Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) on four accused allegedly involved in a violent robbery at an energy plant in Beed district, sources said on Saturday.
The incident took place on April 7 at an Avaada Group facility in Vida village, Kej tehsil (Beed), where a group of 14 assailants attacked two security guards.
Watchmen Akash Jadhav and Abhijeet Dunghav were tied up with bedsheets and thrashed before the gang made off with valuables valued at 12.87 lakh.
A police investigation led to the arrest of four suspects — Baban Sardar Shinde, Dhanaji Kale, Mohan Hari Kale, and Lalasaheb Pawar — all residents of Beed and Dharashiv.
Authorities revealed that the gang is linked to at least 11 other cases involving robbery, theft, and violence.
With the proposal for invoking MCOCA sections approved by Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar (previously known as Aurangabad) Range Inspector General Virendra Mishra, the accused now face stringent legal provisions that make bail difficult and allow confessions made to police to be admissible in court. Six additional suspects remain at large.
Last year, the region drew attention following the murder of Massajog village sarpanch Santosh Deshmukh, who died while resisting an extortion attempt at a local windmill project.
