Mamata faced prison van in Delhi due to 'Kali’s Curse', says Suvendu at Kakdwip rally

Kolkata, Oct 24 (UNI) West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari launched a sharp attack on former chief minister Mamata Banerjee, linking her appearance in a prison van in Delhi on Mahalaya to the power of Sanatan Dharma and the curse of Goddess Kali.
Addressing a public meeting at Kakdwip Stadium in South 24 Parganas on Saturday, Suvendu referred to the controversy surrounding the handling of a Kali idol at Suryanagar in Kakdwip in 2025 and drew a parallel with Mamata’s situation in Delhi this year.
“Last year, Ma Kali was put in a prison van at Suryanagar. The chief minister at whose direction this cruel incident took place also had to board a prison van in Delhi on Mahalaya this year. This is the power of Sanatan Dharma. This is the true power of Maa Durga and Maa Kali. No one's fortunes remain the same forever,” Suvendu said.
The Suryanagar incident in 2025, involving the alleged vandalism of a Kali idol, had triggered tension in the locality.
Police personnel led by then IPS officer Koteshwar Rao had resorted to a lathi-charge on agitated people, following which the idol was taken to a police station in a prison van.
The incident had sparked outrage among sections of the Hindu community.
Suvendu also recalled incidents in which stones had allegedly been thrown at him, claiming that people who had once attempted to insult him were now welcoming him following the change in the state's political leadership.
Turning to development, the chief minister promised greater investment in the Sundarbans and Kakdwip region, which he described as neglected under the previous government.
He said the development of the Sundarbans and the promotion of Gangasagar as an international-standard tourism destination were among his government's priorities.
“I have come here today to develop Gangasagar Mela into an international-standard tourism destination. The development of the neglected Sundarbans is our primary objective,” he said.
Alleging financial irregularities under the previous government, Suvendu claimed that although Rs 600 crore had been allocated for the region, work worth only Rs 200 crore had been completed, while the remaining funds had been misappropriated.
“Our new government has now increased the allocation for the welfare of the Sundarbans to Rs 1,200 crore,” he said.
Suvendu also urged people attending the meeting to remain united and vigilant against what he described as infiltrators and extremists.
He asked them to file fresh FIRs if they had complaints against leaders of the previous Trinamul government.
Assuring action on complaints, the chief minister said no one would be spared and asserted that the rule of law had been established in Bengal.
He added that those responsible for alleged atrocities after the 2021 Assembly elections would also be held accountable.
