Manipur CM Singh assures action on development issues raised by Maring villages

Imphal, Oct 22 (UNI) Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh on Thursday assured representatives of Maring Naga-inhabited villages under Machi Block in Tengnoupal district that the state government would take necessary action on key issues concerning infrastructure, healthcare, security and community development.
The Chief Minister gave the assurance during a meeting with a delegation at the CM Bungalow in Imphal. The delegation was led by Jajo Sylvester, Headman, along with Wairok Hangshing, President of the Maring Uparap Assembly, and Bosco Maring, Chairman of Machi Village.
During the meeting, the representatives apprised the Chief Minister of several pressing concerns affecting residents of the area and sought government intervention to address the challenges faced by the villages.
One of the major issues raised was the poor condition of roads and bridges, with the delegation stressing the need to improve connectivity among villages in Machi Block to facilitate transportation and access to essential services.
The delegation also urged the state government to upgrade the existing Primary Health Centre (PHC) at Machi to a Community Health Centre (CHC). The proposed upgrade, they said, would strengthen healthcare infrastructure and improve access to medical services for the local population.
On security matters, the representatives highlighted a shortage of personnel at Machi Block Police Station, which reportedly has only 25 personnel to cover approximately 50 villages. They requested the deployment of additional police personnel to strengthen law enforcement and ensure the safety of residents.
The delegation also drew attention to security concerns surrounding the Bank of Baroda, reportedly the only bank serving the Machi Block area. It stressed the need for adequate security arrangements to safeguard bank employees, customers and assets.
In addition, the representatives sought the establishment of a community hall in every village to facilitate public meetings, social gatherings and other community activities.
The Maring Uparap Assembly, an apex civil society organisation representing the Maring Naga community, highlighted the importance of addressing these issues to promote development and improve the living conditions of people in the region.
The Chief Minister gave a patient hearing to the delegation and assured its members that the government would take necessary action on the concerns raised.
The meeting comes amid calls for improved public infrastructure, healthcare access and security in remote areas of Manipur, where connectivity and access to essential services remain important concerns for local communities.
