Manipur displaced persons made aware of drug related issues

Imphal, June 19 (UNI) The Manipur government is organising Awareness/Sensitisation Programme at two relief camps — the Old DC Office Relief Camp and Mangolnganbi College Relief Camp, Ningthoukhong, Bishnupur district, an official said on Thursday.
DC Bishnupur, Pooja Elangbam, said the programme was taken up under Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan which is a nationwide initiative aimed at combating drug addiction.
She highlighted the campaign's objective to raise awareness about the harmful impact of drug abuse and to encourage collective efforts toward a drug-free society.
The campaign will be actively implemented in schools, colleges, and relief camps across the district, focusing on educating youths and vulnerable groups about the dangers of substance abuse, she added.
During the visit, the DC also interacted with displaced persons of relief camps, listened to their grievances, and assured them of all possible assistance.

Nutan Nongthombam, an expert on the subject, spoke with the displaced persons through interactive exercises designed to promote a drug-free lifestyle. The initiative aimed to generate awareness on the ill effects of drug abuse, with a special focus on youth residing in the camps.
As part of the outreach effort, enrolment forms for various social welfare schemes including the Old Age Pension Scheme, Widow Pension Scheme, and Disability Scheme were also facilitated for eligible beneficiaries.

Official said the programme sought to educate and support the IDPs in maintaining a drug-free lifestyle by raising awareness about the harmful effects of drug abuse and its long-term consequences. It also seeks to equip the internally displaced persons with strategies for avoiding substance use.
As part of the programme, a poster campaign was launched within the camps to reinforce the mission of the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan. Informative pamphlets highlighting essential facts about drug abuse and available support systems were also distributed.
