Meghalaya terms level-2 travel advisory by US State Dept unfortunate

Shillong, June 24 (UNI) Meghalaya Deputy Chief Minister in-charge Home, Prestone Tynsong, has termed the Level-2 travel advisory by the US State Department cautioning its citizens against visiting Meghalaya and other northeastern states as “unfortunate”.
“It is very unfortunate that such an advisory was issued by the government of the United States of America. I don’t know from where they got this report,” Tynsong said.
“Let me clarify. As far as Meghalaya is concerned, it is one of the safest places. This has been witnessed not only by people from Meghalaya but throughout India and even globally,” he added.
“Meghalaya is in fact the safest place to come, to visit, and to spend holidays,” the Deputy Chief Minister said.
The US State Department on June 16, issued a Level-2 travel advisory directing US government employees to obtain prior approval before visiting any areas outside of the capital cities of Meghalaya due to “terrorism and violence” and that ethnic insurgent groups occasionally commit acts of violence in parts of the northeast.
