Metal giants Deftones tease new music in London concert in indication of new material in five years

Sacramento, July 1 (UNI) American experimental metal band Deftones have teased new music, both prior to and after their concert at London’s Crystal Palace Park, via a graphic post on screen monitors which mentioned new music and put the release date in Roman numerals “X.VII.MMXXV,” reports Metal Hammer.

The band which gained fame in the 90’s alongside several other nu metal bands like Linkin Park, Slipknot, Mushroomhead, Limp Bizkit, Godsmack, Disturbed, had set always set themselves aside from the classification, focusing on ambient structures, more complex riffs, vocal experimentation, artsy melodies, and overall musical experimentation.

The graphic could be a subtle tease towards the release of a new song on July 10. Alternatively, it could point to a new album coming out on October 7, although this is unlikely, as that date will be a Monday and albums are traditionally rolled out on Fridays.

The graphic, a picture of which was uploaded to the Deftones subreddit on Sunday, includes the phrase “private music” and features a circle containing two curved lines. The same symbol can currently be found on the band’s website.

If the band is indeed planning on releasing new music, it will be their first in five years, following the release of their ninth studio album ‘Ohms’ in 2020, which was highly lauded by fans and critics alike.

Deftones are currently playing across Europe on a tour that wraps up on July 6. Their live schedule picks back up again with a North American run that kicks off on August 22, potentially giving the band time to release and rehearse new material between tours.
