Mizoram launches national tribal outreach programme

Aizawl, June 16 (UNI) Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma today inaugurated the Dharti Aaba Janjatiya Gram Utkarsh Abhiyan (DAJGUA) Awareness and Benefit Saturation Camp here, marking Mizoram’s official rollout of the Centre’s flagship tribal development initiative.
Speaking at the launch, Lalduhoma highlighted that over 94% of Mizoram's population comprises Scheduled Tribes, making it unique among Indian states where tribal communities often remain minorities. He said this demographic reality ensures that tribal-centric welfare and development schemes introduced by the central government have a far-reaching impact across the entire state.
He emphasised that even schemes initiated by the state government inherently contribute to tribal welfare, given the state's population composition. The Chief Minister expressed confidence that the awareness and benefit saturation camp would be implemented efficiently and serve as an exemplary model for other states.
“All implementing officials are expected to ensure seamless and effective service delivery,” he said, adding that every beneficiary must receive the intended benefits without delay. Following the Chief Minister’s address, stakeholders and participants also engaged in discussions and feedback sessions.
DAJGUA is a flagship initiative of the central government launched with the vision of making India a developed nation by 2047. The programme focuses on empowering tribal communities by improving access to education and essential welfare schemes.
Seventeen line departments have been tasked with implementing the scheme nationwide through convergence across 549 tribal-dominated districts. In Mizoram, 14 departments are involved, and the programme is being conducted in 383 villages, targeting over 4 lakh people across 11 districts.
The launch programme was attended by Assembly Speaker Lalbiakzama, PWD Minister Vanlalhlana, EF&CC Minister Lalthansanga, I&PR Minister Dr Vanlalthlana, Horticulture Minister Prof Lalnilawma, and Tourism Minister Lalnghinglova Hmar.
The event was chaired by Vanlaldina Fanai, Commissioner of Finance and Planning. A brief presentation on the programme’s objectives and expected outcomes was delivered by Biakthansangi Hrahsel, Deputy Adviser-cum-Deputy Secretary, while Planning Secretary Lalmalsawma Pachuau gave the vote of thanks to conclude the function.
