Mizoram: Thousands rally in Aizawl against proposed FCRA changes

Aizawl, Aug 11 (UNI) Thousands of people participated in a peaceful rally organised by the Council of Churches in Mizoram (CCM) here today, voicing strong opposition to proposed amendments to the Foreign Contribution Regulation Act (FCRA) and calling for the removal of provisions they described as potentially harmful to churches, NGOs and civil society organisations.
The rally, organised by the CCM, an alliance of nine church denominations, drew a large crowd to the streets of the state capital. The protesters urged the Centre to reconsider the contentious provisions of the proposed Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Amendment Bill, 2026, and called for wider consultation before the legislation is finalised.
Addressing the gathering in front of Vanapa Hall, CCM president Rev. Dr. R. Lalbiakliana said the churches had taken note of the union government's stated objectives of making foreign contributions more transparent and strengthening national security.
