MP: Khandwa tops nation in water conservation efforts

Bhopal, June 1 (UNI) Khandwa district in Madhya Pradesh has secured the top spot in the country in water conservation efforts, while the state ranks fourth at the national level. Chief Minister Mohan Yadav has congratulated the district on this achievement.

According to official information, the Union Ministry of Jal Shakti has released a ranking of states and districts, with Khandwa district emerging as the top performer in water conservation. Yadav expressed his happiness and congratulated the citizens, representatives, and government officials of Khandwa.

The Chief Minister emphasized that water conservation is a top priority for the government. He expressed confidence that all districts in the state will perform better in this campaign.

The state-level nodal officer for the Jal Ganga Samvardhan Abhiyan and MGNREGA Commissioner Avipraasad stated that over 1.29 lakh water conservation structures have been built and registered in Khandwa district through various means, including MGNREGA, 15th Finance Commission, 5th Finance Commission, CSR, and public cooperation.

The structures include 12,750 recharge pits, 1,500 recharge shafts, 23,570 dug wells, 5,780 boulder check dams, and others. After the release of the ranking by the Union Ministry of Jal Shakti, the central government will conduct a physical verification of the work done in the district before announcing the award.

Khandwa district has secured the top spot based on the water conservation structures built between April 1, 2024, and May 31, 2025, under the Jal Sanrakshan, Jan Bhagidari campaign.
