Mumbai braces for another hot, humid day as temperature set to touch 36°C

Mumbai, Oct 26 (UNI) Mumbai continued to experience hot and humid weather on Monday, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasting mainly clear skies and a maximum temperature of around 36 degrees Celsius.
The minimum temperature was recorded at 28 degrees Celsius in the morning, indicating that the city received little relief from the heat even during the early hours. The prevailing conditions are expected to keep residents uncomfortable as temperatures rise through the day.
The combination of high temperatures and humidity is likely to make the weather feel warmer than the actual mercury levels, particularly during the afternoon. Commuters, outdoor workers and people travelling during peak daytime hours may face greater discomfort due to prolonged exposure to the heat.
Despite the forecast of largely clear skies, the absence of significant cloud cover is expected to allow temperatures to remain high during the day. Residents may experience continued discomfort in congested areas and locations with limited shade, where heat can build up.
The warm conditions come after a prolonged spell of heatwave-like weather in the city, keeping the focus on the persistence of above-comfort temperatures even as October advances towards its end.
People are advised to avoid unnecessary exposure to direct sunlight during the hottest part of the day, drink adequate water and wear light, breathable clothing. Those working outdoors are encouraged to take regular breaks in shaded or well-ventilated areas.
The IMD had issued a yellow alert for Mumbai and neighbouring districts of Thane, Palghar and Raigad, warning of hot and humid conditions in isolated areas over the weekend. A yellow alert advises authorities and residents to remain updated on the evolving weather situation.
The persistent warmth comes after Maharashtra recorded a below-normal monsoon this year. The state received 804.4 mm of rainfall between June and September, against the seasonal average of 994.5 mm, resulting in a 19 per cent rainfall deficit.
However, the intensity of discomfort may vary across different parts of Mumbai depending on local humidity, wind conditions and exposure to direct sunlight.
