Japanese semiconductor major Hirata enters India, partners with ATS India

Hyderabad, Sept 16 (UNI) Japanese semiconductor manufacturing and automation equipment major Hirata Corporation has entered the Indian market through a strategic partnership with ATS India (Automated Tooling Systems India).
Under the partnership, ATS India will serve as Hirata's exclusive distribution partner in India and facilitate access to the Japanese company's semiconductor equipment and technology portfolio for Indian manufacturers.
The partnership comes ahead of India's hosting of Semicon 2026 and amid efforts to strengthen domestic semiconductor manufacturing and electronics manufacturing capabilities, the companies said in a release on Wednesday.
In the initial phase, Hirata will focus on its standard product offerings in India, with plans to expand into customised and application-specific solutions as the semiconductor ecosystem matures.
The portfolio to be introduced in India includes Equipment Front End Modules (EFEM), FOPLP load ports, PLP panel-handling robots and high-performance wafer-handling robots.
The solutions are designed for wafer and panel handling applications across semiconductor manufacturing and advanced packaging processes.
ATS India CEO Kishen Kavikondala said the partnership would focus on building the local commercial, technical and service ecosystem required by India's semiconductor manufacturers as capacity expands.
He said making Hirata's equipment locally available would reduce dependence on cross-border logistics and improve access to technical support and servicing.
Hirata Corporation of America Vice President John Derzy said India was an important growth market for the company as semiconductor and electronics manufacturing continued to diversify globally.
He said the partnership would focus on increasing automation in semiconductor manufacturing, particularly in outsourced semiconductor assembly and test (OSAT) operations.
The companies said the collaboration would also contribute to the development of the local supply chain and skill ecosystem in precision manufacturing.
The partnership is aimed at supporting India's semiconductor and electronics manufacturing ambitions and enabling greater adoption of advanced automation and material-handling technologies, they said.
According to the companies, India's electronic manufacturing services (EMS) market is projected to exceed USD 150 billion by FY30, compared with an estimated USD 40-45 billion in 2025.
