Noel Tata and son Neville file caveats in Bombay High Court regarding Trusts administration

Mumbai, Oct 14 (UNI) Tata Trusts Chairman Noel Tata and his son Neville Tata have filed caveats in the Bombay High Court seeking to ensure that the court hears their side before passing any orders in the case related to the administration of Tata Trusts as well as trustee appointments, sources said here on Wednesday.
A caveat, which is a legal notice requesting that a court hear the person filing it before granting certain orders in proceedings that may be initiated, has named co-trustees Venu Srinivasan, Vijay Singh, Darius Khambata and Bhaskar Bhat as caveatees.
The development comes even as sources indicated that former Tata Trusts trustee Mehli Mistry is likely to approach the Bombay High Court regarding repeated delays in hearings concerning alleged governance lapses and trustee misconduct at three Tata charitable trusts.
Notably, Mehli Mistry had opposed the continuation of Venu Srinivasan and Vijay Singh as trustees earlier.
The caveat filings by Tata Trusts Chairman Noel Tata and his son Neville Tata is about disagreements regarding governance at the Sir Dorabji Tata Trust (SDTT), one of the main entities within Tata Trusts, which collectively own a 60% stake in holding company Tata Sons.
Several trusts within Tata Trusts have also filed 84 caveats before the Maharashtra Charity Commissioner to protect their opportunity to be heard, before any orders are passed.
Recently, the Maharashtra Charity Commissioner extended the deadline for responding to complaints filed by Venu Srinivasan and Vijay Singh from October 12 to October 19.
In their complaints, Venu Srinivasn and Vijay Singh have alleged governance irregularities, including questions regarding perpetual trustee appointments and the Sir Dorabji Tata Trust's (SDTT) involvement in the commercial affairs of Tata Sons.
SDTT trustee Venu Srinivasan, who is the Tata Trusts nominee director on the Tata Sons board, has sought an immediate investigation into the administration of the Sir Dorabji Tata Trusts (SDTT) as well as requested restrictions on changes to SDTT’s board while the probe continues.
In his complaint, Srinivasan questioned Circular Resolution No 107, circulated on September 16 and alleged that the resolution attempted to prevent him from exercising independent judgement during Tata Sons board deliberations.
Venu Srinivasan linked the development to his reported exclusion in November 2025, alleging that there has been a continuing effort to limit dissenting views among trustees. Srinivasan’s complaint also raised concerns about the concentration of decision-making authority within Tata Trusts.
