JFL commissions Rs 5,000-crore integrated steel facility in Odisha’s Jajpur

Bhubaneswar, Oct 15 (UNI) Jindal Ferrous Limited (JFL) has commissioned a 2.2 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) integrated steel manufacturing facility at Jajpur in Odisha, marking the company’s entry into integrated steel production with an investment of over Rs 5,000 crore.
Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi inaugurated the facility, which incorporates a sinter plant, a 2.2 MTPA steel melt shop (SMS) and associated infrastructure, strengthening Odisha’s position as a major destination for steel manufacturing and industrial investment.
The project has been designed to promote resource efficiency, operational reliability and sustainable manufacturing, with provisions for recycling metallurgical waste through the sinter plant and utilising process gases across operations.
The facility is equipped with advanced automation and process optimisation systems, including a Level-2 automation platform with a blast furnace expert model, high top-pressure operation and dry gas cleaning systems to enhance process stability and operational efficiency.
To ensure an efficient ramp-up of operations and maintain product quality, JFL has entered into a technical collaboration with Japan-based JFE Steel Corporation, one of the leading steel manufacturers globally.
Addressing the inauguration, Chief Minister Majhi said Odisha had immense potential to emerge as a leading destination for industrial growth and manufacturing in the country.
The commissioning of JFL’s integrated steel facility at Jajpur was an important addition to the state’s industrial ecosystem and reflected industry’s confidence in Odisha’s natural resources, infrastructure and investment-friendly environment, he said.
JFL promoter Abhyuday Jindal said Odisha had emerged as one of the country’s major industrial growth centres, offering a combination of natural resources, infrastructure connectivity, policy support and long-term manufacturing potential.
“ For Jindal Ferrous, it was the natural choice to establish our first integrated steel-making complex,” he said, adding that the facility had been developed with a focus on product quality, process efficiency and manufacturing reliability at scale.
As infrastructure development and industrial demand continued to expand across the country, the project reflected JFL’s commitment to creating long-term value while contributing to India’s industrial development and self-reliance objectives, Jindal said.
The facility has also incorporated water recycling and environmental management systems, including a zero-discharge approach and effluent treatment facilities. Sewage treatment and reverse osmosis (RO) infrastructure are also planned as part of its environmental management framework.
Strategically located close to key raw material sources, pellet supplies and port connectivity, the plant is supported by long-term iron ore linkage arrangements to ensure operational continuity.
The project is expected to generate employment for more than 2,000 people and contribute to the economic and social development of surrounding communities.
