Liberty settles excluded motor claims during Op Sindoor

Mumbai, Jun 2 (UNI) Liberty General Insurance Ltd has emerged as one of the first insurance companies to provide on-ground support and ex-gratia settlements to customers affected by cross-border shelling during *Operation Sindoor*, stepping beyond standard contractual obligations under motor insurance policies.
Standard motor policies typically exclude damages caused by war or hostile acts, including shelling by foreign forces. However, Liberty General Insurance, guided by its customer-centric philosophy, announced that it had extended support to affected policyholders, settling claims on compassionate grounds.
The insurer’s Claims Team was among the earliest to reach the impacted region, offering immediate assistance, guidance, and reassurance to distressed customers. Despite the exclusions under standard insurance norms, Liberty approved settlements in what it termed as an effort to "interpret responsibility rather than exclusions".
"When lives are disrupted by forces beyond anyone’s control, the true essence of customer service is tested," said Sachin Joshi, President – Claims, Operations and Customer Service, Liberty General Insurance. "Our team responded with urgency, empathy and clarity of purpose. In moments like these, it’s not just the claim amount that matters—it’s the assurance, the presence and the promptness."
Liberty’s actions during Operation Sindoor underline its core value of ‘Put People First’ and its larger commitment to *Bharose Ka Vaada*—a promise of trust to stand by customers in their most vulnerable moments.
The move has been widely appreciated within industry circles as a rare example of institutional empathy and proactive customer support in a conflict zone.
