Embrace AI as an opportunity, don't fear job losses: Ex-IT Minister KTR tells youth

Hyderabad, Oct 24 (UNI) Former IT Minister and Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) working President K.T. Rama Rao (KTR) on Saturday called upon the youth to embrace Artificial Intelligence (AI) as a powerful frontier for innovation and employment rather than viewing it as a threat to livelihoods, underscoring the critical need for continuous upskilling.
Inaugurating the India headquarters of enterprise data and AI solutions firm RandomTrees here, the former IT Minister said Telangana must aggressively consolidate its technology ecosystem, draw global investments, and align its workforce with emerging technological disruptions.
Drawing a historical parallel, Rama Rao noted that major technological revolutions have routinely triggered initial panic before ushering in unprecedented avenues for economic expansion.
He recalled the widespread resistance that met the introduction of computers in India's banking sector decades ago, noting that proactive adaptation, rather than resistance, remains the only path forward.
"Labeling AI as an outright threat only stokes needless fear. The youth must focus on acquiring market-relevant skills and maintaining agility in the face of shifting technological landscapes," he said.
Underlining the private sector's indispensable role in driving mass employment, KTR remarked that governments should prioritize enabling a robust, business-friendly environment over attempting to directly absorb every job seeker.
He noted that uninterrupted power, reliable water supply, top-tier infrastructure, robust mobility networks, and ease of doing business form the foundational pillars required to woo global capital.
Reflecting on his tenure as IT Minister, Rama Rao said the previous BRS administration laid a formidable foundation to transform Hyderabad into a premier destination for multinational corporations and Global Capability Centres (GCCs).
He expressed confidence that Hyderabad has the momentum to establish itself as a premier global hub for AI innovation, data engineering, and tech research.
Citing practical applications of deep-tech, he referenced the 'Saagu-Baagu' pilot in Sircilla, which leveraged AI-driven diagnostics to detect crop pests and deliver rapid solutions to farmers.
He also pointed to the rise of digital delivery and quick-commerce ecosystems as proof of technology creating expansive, decentralized employment models.
The former IT Minister urged governments, academia, and industry bodies to forge closer institutional partnerships to design forward-looking curricula and ensure technological dividends reach all segments of society.
