Sensex rises over 100 pts

Mumbai, May 8 (UNI) The BSE Sensex on Thursday advanced further by 166 pts to open at 80,912.34 on strong global cues.

The National Stock Exchange (NSE) rose 17 pts at 24,431.50

pts.

Stocks include IT, Auto and Telecommunications boosted the market in early trade.

The BSE Sensex registered intra-day high at 80,927.99 and intra-day low at 80,837.35 respectively.

The Nifty registered days high at 24,447.25 and low at 24,411.20 pts.

The Mid cap rose 0.06 pc while small cap by 9.46 pc.

In 30 scrips, 17 advanced while 13 declined.

The gainers were Tata Motors by 1.76 pc to Rs 692.45, Powergrid by 1.54 pc to Rs 316.05, Kotak Bank by 1.22 pc to Rs 2121 and Tech Mahindra by 0.77 pc to Rs 1507.10.

The losers were Eternal by 1.18 pc to Rs 234.10, Maruti Suzuki by 1.02 pc to Rs 12,500, ITC by 0.91 pc to Rs 426.75 and Nestle India Ltd by 0.81 pc to Rs 2317.95.

US Market and Asian Market were up while European market was seen weak.

London, May 8 (UNI) Airtel Africa Ltd on Thursday reported a strong financial performance for the year ended March 31, with constant currency revenue rising 21.1 per cent to USD 4,955 million and profit after tax (PAT) swinging to USD 328 million from a loss of USD 89 million in the previous fiscal, aided by easing currency headwinds and operational momentum across its markets.
