Peace essential for Manipur’s economic development: CM Khemchand

Senapati (Manipur), Sep 26 (UNI) Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh has stressed that restoring peace is essential for Manipur’s economic recovery and development, saying that economic progress cannot be achieved while the State continues to face disruption.
“How can we develop if the State’s economy is affected? The only way to build a developed Manipur and a stronger economy is to restore peace,” Khemchand said while addressing the Silver Jubilee celebration of Don Bosco College, Maram, at the college campus on Friday. The event marked 25 years of the institution’s journey under the theme, “Heritage to Horizons.”
The Chief Minister said Manipur had suffered a loss of around Rs 1,300 crore in GST collection over the last three years due to the ongoing crisis. He said the economic disruption had affected development as well as the livelihoods of people, particularly those living below the poverty line.
