Odisha CM announces monthly incentives for aided college in charge principals

Bhubaneswar, Nov 4 (UNI) In a major relief to in-charge principals of private aided colleges in Odisha, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has approved a proposal to provide monthly financial incentives ranging from Rs 5,000 to Rs 10,000, depending on their posting location and geographical conditions.
The decision is aimed at encouraging college lecturers to take up the responsibilities of principals, particularly in colleges located in distant and remote areas, thereby ensuring the smooth functioning of higher education institutions across the state.
Under the new arrangement, in-charge principals serving in private aided colleges under the 488 and 662 categories will be eligible for the monthly incentives. Around 641 colleges across Odisha are expected to benefit from the decision.
As per the approved proposal, principals posted in their home districts or developed urban areas will receive an incentive of Rs 5,000 per month. Those posted outside their home districts will be entitled to Rs 7,000 per month.
Similarly, principals posted at locations more than 300 kilometres away from their home districts or residences will receive Rs 9,000 per month. Those serving in geographically distant and inaccessible areas will be eligible for a monthly incentive of Rs 10,000.
The eligibility of postings in remote and difficult geographical locations will be determined by a designated committee.
Chief Minister Majhi expressed hope that the financial incentive would encourage more lecturers to assume the responsibilities of in-charge principals in colleges located in far-flung areas. This, in turn, is expected to strengthen the administration of colleges and ensure the uninterrupted continuation of academic activities in the higher education sector.
The State Government is expected to spend approximately Rs 6 crore annually towards implementing the scheme.
The decision will come into effect from the date of publication of the official notification, official sources said.
