Jharkhand Chamber seeks adequate supply of new notes, coins

Ranchi, Oct 31 (UNI) The Federation of Jharkhand Chamber of Commerce and Industries has urged the Reserve Bank of India and banks to ensure adequate availability of new currency notes and coins across the state during the festive season, citing complaints from traders about shortages.
The chamber has written to the RBI's Assistant General Manager and Regional Director, the State Level Bankers' Committee (SLBC) general manager and senior officials of various banks, seeking steps to improve the supply and distribution of small-denomination currency.
Chamber president Tulsi Patel said traders were facing a shortage of new Rs 10, Rs 20, Rs 50 and Rs 100 notes, besides Rs 5 and Rs 10 coins. Complaints had been received from Ranchi as well as other districts, with the problem being more acute in rural areas, he said.
Patel said the shortage was causing difficulties for traders during the festive season.
He noted that new currency notes were traditionally used for worship during Diwali and Chhath and given to children and relatives as gifts.
He urged banks to distribute new notes and coins through their branches and organise coin fairs at different locations across Jharkhand to improve public access.
Mahendra Jain, chairman of the chamber's banking sub-committee, said adequate availability of small-denomination currency was necessary to prevent inconvenience to traders during the festive period.
He said the chamber was ready to extend all possible support to banks in organising coin fairs across the state.
