Cleanliness drive: ECoR Collects Rs 5.89 lakh in fines

Bhubaneswar, Sep 27 (UNI) East Coast Railway (ECoR) collected Rs 5.89 lakh in fines in August 2026 for 3,028 cases related to activities affecting cleanliness at railway premises, marking a rise from the previous month.
In July, ECoR had booked 2,302 such cases and collected Rs 4.41 lakh. The increase in both cases and fines reflects intensified monitoring and enforcement across railway stations and premises.
The Railway Protection Force (RPF) accounted for 2,392 cases and collected Rs 4.625 lakh, while the Commercial Department booked 636 cases and realised Rs 1.27 lakh across Khurda Road, Rayagada and Sambalpur divisions.
Khurda Road Division recorded the highest enforcement, with 2,203 cases and Rs 4.526 lakh in fines, followed by Sambalpur with 421 cases and Rs 74,100, and Rayagada with 404 cases and Rs 62,800.
ECoR said penalties are being imposed alongside awareness measures to discourage littering and promote responsible behaviour among passengers, employees, vendors and other stakeholders.
The drive is part of Swachhata Hi Seva 2026, being observed from September 17 to October 2 under the theme “Swachhata Mein Sahbhag: Swachh Bharat, Viksit Bharat.”
ECoR has also intensified drinking water quality and sanitation monitoring. A special drive from August 18 to September 3 covered 175 railway stations and 160 railway colonies. Surprise water-quality checks, cleaning of tanks and water coolers, waste segregation and removal of legacy waste are also continuing across the zone.UNI MK AAB
