Child’s severed head found in Durga temple, elder brother arrested in Bihar

Patna, Oct 24 (UNI) Panic gripped Jitan Chapra village under Ranitalab police station in Bihar’s Patna district on Saturday after the severed head of a toddler was discovered inside a local Durga temple.
Villagers spotted the head of the approximately one-and-a-half-year-old boy in the temple and immediately alerted police. A police team rushed to the spot and launched an investigation.
The child was the youngest son of local resident Ranju Yadav.
According to initial information, the boy’s elder brother, Ajit Kumar, had carried the toddler from their home in his arms to the temple, located about 200 metres away.
Pankaj Kumar Sharma, Paliganj Sub-Divisional Police Officer, said, “Upon receiving the information, the police team took prompt action, reached the scene, and began investigation and necessary proceedings. During this, one accused involved in the murder was duly arrested.”
He added that preliminary investigation and further action revealed that the arrested accused had murdered his own younger brother, aged about one-and-a-half years, within the temple premises. An FSL team has been informed to collect scientific evidence from the scene. Police are examining all aspects of the case and continuing lawful proceedings.
The accused fled the scene after the incident but was later arrested. Police have also recovered the weapon allegedly used in the crime.
Villagers said Ajit Kumar had become addicted to drugs over the past few months, an angle police are also probing. The exact motive remains unclear.
