Odisha Vigilance recovers 606 gm gold from engineer’s bank locker

Bhubaneswar, Nov 4 (UNI) Odisha Vigilance on Wednesday recovered gold jewellery weighing around 606 grams from a bank locker operated by arrested Superintending Engineer Prasanjit Das during his three-day police remand.
Das, who is posted in the Mahanadi Northern Division at Jagatpur in Cuttack, was taken to Baragada on Tuesday for an inventory of his locker at a private bank. The exercise led to the recovery of 606.30 grams of gold jewellery, Vigilance said.
The Special Judge, Vigilance, Bhubaneswar, had allowed the investigating officer to take Das on police remand from November 2 to 4 for further investigation in connection with a disproportionate assets-related case registered under the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018.
Das was arrested by Odisha Vigilance on October 17 after being intercepted while allegedly carrying Rs 7.28 lakh in suspected ill-gotten cash. Subsequent simultaneous searches at his residential premises led to the seizure of another Rs 14.60 lakh, taking the total cash recovery to Rs 21.88 lakh.
Further investigation into the case is underway.
