Two youths from Bihar arrested with firearms in Agartala

Agartala, Nov 5 (UNI) The West Agartala Police arrested two youths from Bihar on Wednesday, ahead of the municipal elections. Officers seized three pistols, six magazines and 50 rounds of ammunition in the Battala TRTC area in the city near a gas agency.
The seizure has raised concern about illegal firearms moving through the state capital before the civic polls. Police have yet to explain why the weapons were brought to Agartala or who was meant to receive them.
Preliminary information suggested the youths brought the firearms from Bihar. The intended recipients and the purpose of the alleged delivery remain under investigation. The discovery comes as political activity grows ahead of the elections, adding to concerns about security in Agartala. Residents have also questioned whether illegal weapons could be used to stir tension during the campaign.
The case has renewed attention to earlier firearm seizures by Tripura Police and railway police in Agartala. Several people have reportedly been arrested in past cases, but questions remain about later court proceedings and claims that some were released.
Public calls are growing for a full inquiry into the illegal arms trade and possible links among suppliers, carriers and local recipients. Police are expected to trace the firearms’ source and the route from Bihar, and identify the person or people due to receive them.
