Centre eyes Bengal as electronic manufacturing hub to create jobs: Jitin Prasada

Kolkata, Sep 29 (UNI) The Centre is looking to develop West Bengal as an electronic manufacturing hub to create job opportunities for the youth, union Minister of State for IT and Electronics and Trade and Commerce Jitin Prasada said on Tuesday.
The minister was speaking at a session organised by the Indian Chamber of Commerce. Urging the business community in West Bengal to explore the potential of new-age industries, including IT and electronics, he said, "With the double engine government at the Centre and the state, the pipeline from Delhi to Kolkata has been cleared and there are no roadblocks. We will see huge investments, the roadmap and the vision of the central government unfolding in Bengal with huge infrastructure developments."
Highlighting the union government's plans for the industrial development of West Bengal, the minister said, "Now we are ensuring that the potential that Bengal has, we are looking at it as a place for electronic manufacturing, especially to create jobs for the young and also increase trade, streamlining issues, trade and processes so that the fitted agreement that have been done across the world, the people and the industries of Bengal make use of that, especially the MSMEs."
Emphasising West Bengal's industrial past, the minister said, "West Bengal has a great locational legacy, port, industry, manufacturing, access to the north east and huge talent. From jute to tea, fisheries and jewellery, Bengal has all of these industries. Over the years, that took a back seat and people of Bengal have missed out on an opportunity. The youth of Bengal have lost a few years."
He also asserted that under the new government in West Bengal, the state is poised to become the next manufacturing destination soon.
