Odisha offers higher incentives to principals in remote areas

Bhubaneswar, Nov 4 (UNI) The Odisha government has approved monthly incentives of up to Rs 10,000 for in-charge principals of private aided colleges, based on their place of posting.
Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has approved the proposal, which aims to encourage college teachers to take up principal's responsibilities in institutions located in distant and remote areas and ensure the smooth functioning of higher education.
The decision will benefit in-charge principals of 488-category and 662-category aided colleges, covering around 641 institutions across the state.
Under the arrangement, principals posted in their home districts or developed urban areas will receive Rs 5,000 a month. Those posted outside their home districts will get Rs 7,000, while those serving at locations at least 300 km away from their home districts or residences will receive Rs 9,000 per month.
In-charge principals posted in geographically remote and inaccessible areas will be eligible for Rs 10,000 a month. Such locations will be identified by a committee.
The state government will incur an estimated annual expenditure of around Rs 6 crore towards the incentive payments. The scheme will come into effect from the date of publication of the official notification.
