Suvendu to celebrate first Diwali as CM with BSF jawans at Hakimpur border

Kolkata, Nov 5 (UNI) Following the tradition established by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari will celebrate his first Diwali in office with Border Security Force (BSF) personnel at the Hakimpur border outpost in North 24 Parganas on November 8.
Adhikari is scheduled to reach the BSF camp at Hakimpur, under Swarupnagar block, at around 11 am.
He will spend a considerable amount of time with the jawans, exchange Diwali greetings, and share the festive occasion with personnel deployed to guard the country's borders.
The Chief Minister's decision to celebrate Diwali with security personnel follows Modi's longstanding practice of spending the festival with soldiers and paramilitary forces stationed along the country's borders.
During his tenure as Gujarat Chief Minister, Modi regularly visited BSF camps on Diwali to celebrate the occasion with jawans.
After becoming Prime Minister in 2014, he continued the tradition, travelling to different border locations across the country to meet security personnel.
He has celebrated Diwali with troops in areas including Ladakh and Rajasthan, among other border regions.
Adhikari, who took over as Chief Minister earlier this year, is now set to follow the same practice during his first Diwali in office.
The visit is being seen as significant, as it will provide an opportunity for the state government's head to acknowledge the contribution of security personnel who remain on duty even during major festivals to ensure the country's safety.
The Hakimpur visit will be the first leg of the Chief Minister's Diwali engagements on November 8.
After spending time with the BSF personnel, Adhikari is expected to return to Kolkata.
However, his stay in the city will be brief.
He is scheduled to leave for Nandigram in the afternoon, where he plans to spend the remainder of the festival.
Adhikari had won the Assembly elections from both Nandigram and Bhabanipur but subsequently resigned from the Nandigram seat, retaining Bhabanipur.
He is now expected to spend the remainder of Diwali in Nandigram, the constituency he represented before vacating the seat.
Thus, the Chief Minister's schedule will combine a visit to the international border to celebrate with security personnel and festivities in his own constituency.
