Former Rajya Sabha MP and industrialist RK Sinha passes away

Patna, Oct 30 (UNI) Senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and noted industrialist Ravindra Kishore Sinha (RK Sinha), a former Rajya Sabha member and former chairman of Hindusthan Samachar, a multilingual news agency, passed away on Friday.
He was 75 and is survived by his wife, Rita Kishore Sinha, a son and a daughter. He breathed his last at his residence in Noida.
His demise has sent shockwaves across political, industrial and journalistic circles in Bihar. His mortal remains are being brought to Patna, where people will be able to pay their last respects at Annapurna Bhawan in the city's Patliputra locality.
Born on September 22, 1951, in Buxar district of Bihar, Sinha's life was marked by perseverance, entrepreneurship and social commitment. As his father was posted in Patna, he received his early education in the state capital.
He began his professional career in journalism and covered the 1971 India-Pakistan war as a war correspondent. At the time, he was associated with Patna-based English daily The Searchlight.
Influenced by the ideals of Loknayak Jayaprakash Narayan, Sinha joined the student movement of 1974. During the Emergency, he also extended support to leaders associated with the democratic movement and their families. He had been politically active since the Jana Sangh days and was among the early leaders associated with the BJP.
One of Sinha's most significant achievements was the establishment of the Security and Intelligence Services (SIS) Group. He founded the organisation in 1974 from a small garage in Patna, with the objective of providing employment opportunities to ex-servicemen following the India-Pakistan war.
Through sustained efforts and entrepreneurial vision, he transformed the modest venture into one of India's leading private security services companies. The SIS Group subsequently expanded its operations overseas and emerged as a major employment-generating enterprise.
Sinha also made a significant mark in public life. The BJP sent him to the Rajya Sabha from Bihar in 2014. He served as a Member of Parliament in the Upper House from April 10, 2014, to April 9, 2020. During his parliamentary tenure, he raised issues concerning women's safety, the cleanliness of the Ganga, skill development, environmental protection and Bihar's development. He also actively participated in parliamentary debates on various matters of public importance.
Maintaining his longstanding association with journalism, Sinha also served as chairman of Hindusthan Samachar, the multilingual news agency. His contributions across journalism, industry and politics earned him recognition at the national level.
His son, Rituraj Kishore Sinha, is the BJP's national secretary and managing director of the SIS Group. His daughter is Rivoli Sinha. Rita Kishore Sinha also serves as chairperson of SIS Limited.
