Drone Port inaugurated at TRIHMS to boost emergency medical delivery in Arunachal

Itanagar, July 2 (UNI) In a significant stride towards integrating drone technology into the healthcare delivery system of Arunachal Pradesh, a Drone Port was inaugurated on the rooftop of Tomo Riba Institute of Health & Medical Sciences (TRIHMS), Naharlagun.
The facility, developed by the Arunachal Pradesh Space Application Centre (APSAC), is expected to revolutionise emergency medical services in the state.
The inauguration ceremony was graced yesterday by TRIHMS Director Dr Moji Jini, who was joined by Chief Medical Superintendent Dr D Raina, APSAC Director Dr H Dutta, Joint Director and Nodal Officer Dr Liagi Tajo, Deputy Director and Liaison Officer Nyelam Tath, Deputy Director Chau Ken Manlong, and other senior officers from both TRIHMS and APSAC.
Commending APSAC for its pioneering efforts, Dr Jini said, “The establishment of this drone port will enable timely delivery of life-saving medicines, anti-venoms, and even human organs to remote areas of the state during emergencies. It is a major milestone in strengthening healthcare access for the people of Arunachal Pradesh.”
APSAC has been at the forefront of utilising drone technology for various applications, including resource mapping, infrastructure monitoring, road and power line alignment, and 3D mapping. In collaboration with the State Health & Family Welfare Department, experimental drone-based medicine deliveries have already been successfully conducted in multiple regions.
The new Drone Port is designed to accommodate both Vertical Take-off and Landing (VTOL) and Short Take-off and Landing (STOL) aircraft. It includes facilities for drone operations, storage, and maintenance, making it a comprehensive hub for aerial healthcare logistics.
The initiative is part of a broader vision to expand drone infrastructure across the state under programmes such as “Medicine from the Sky,” which aim to bridge the last-mile connectivity gap in healthcare, especially in hard-to-reach and disaster-prone regions.
