Puri Jagannath Temple to host artists’ camp on Odisha’s heritage

Bhubaneswar, Nov 3 (UNI) The rich cultural and spiritual heritage of Lord Jagannath will find artistic expression at a three-day painters’ camp, ‘Neela Shaila’, to be organised by the Shree Jagannath Temple Administration in Puri.

The camp will bring together eminent artists from Odisha, including recipients of Padma, national and state awards. A coffee-table book featuring all paintings created during the event will also be published.
A meeting of the camp committee was held at the temple office under the chairmanship of renowned sand artist and Padma Shri awardee Dr Sudarsan Pattnaik, former president of the Odisha Lalit Kala Akademi. Eminent artist Padma Shri Binod Maharana, former Akademi secretary Tarakanta Parida and temple administration officials attended the meeting. Akademi secretary Dr Debjani Bhuyan joined virtually.
The temple administration will make arrangements for the participating artists’ accommodation and other facilities.
A similar artists’ camp, ‘Neela Kandara’, was organised in Puri in 2014 ahead of Nabakalebara through a joint initiative of the State Government’s Tourism and Culture Department, Odisha Lalit Kala Akademi and the temple administration.
Temple Chief Administrator Dr Aravind Kumar Padhee said ‘Neela Shaila’ would promote the glory of Lord Jagannath while showcasing Odisha’s cultural traditions, tourism, heritage, art and craftsmanship.
The initiative would also help strengthen Puri’s identity as a centre of spirituality and culture, he added.
